Spring 2022 Full - Interested in the Next Course?

Building a Diverse Community of Stewards and Advocates for Our Lands

Four Rivers Natural History Association is excited to be hosting the UC ANR California Naturalist program, a statewide certification program that promotes environmental literacy and stewardship through discovery and action. Through virtual classroom instruction, field days, and hands-on exercises, you will observe and learn about the San Joaquin Valley ecosystem.

Your journey through this course will cover basic ecology, watershed concepts, geology, wildlife, plants, human impacts, regional stories, and global environmental issues. Course instructors are local field experts and scientists selected from organizations working directly with our local natural resources, and will guide the cohort through an intensive experience that takes a focus on San Joaquin Valley features. The rich science based curriculum is supported by hands-on field experiences that help capture the essence of the program.

Participants will engage in at least 40 hours of coursework, three field experiences, and a capstone project. The course is open to members of the public aged 18 years and up. Those completing the 40-hour course along with their capstone project will receive the California Naturalist Certification, becoming part of a committed corps of naturalists ready to take an active role in local natural resource conservation, education, and restoration.
