Facilitating Environmental Education for Young Learners PreK-TK-K

Workshop: Growing Up WILD Certification and CEU Opportunity

Learn the ways of a naturalist and interpreter so you can engage your students in new and exciting ways! This course introduces teaching strategies that bring environmental education concepts to life for all learners and is great for anyone who wants to connect youth with the natural world!

Using the Universal Design for Learning framework, participants learn how to link existing environmental curricula, educational standards, and knowledge of place with the skills of an environmental interpreter. We will use the Association of Fish and Wildlife’s Growing Up WILD curriculum to explore strategies and techniques.

Through Four Rivers Natural History Association sponsorship, participants will receive Growing Up WILD guides at no additional cost. The guides have been funded through California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Sport Fish Restoration Grant.

This workshop will:

  1. Enable educators to use various methods of engagement for learners in environmental education explorations.
  2. Provide learning events/activities that enhance teacher efficacy in facilitating effective, engaging environmental education experiences.
  3. Provide a professional development experience that embraces field-based methods that inspire curiosity and experiential learning.
  4. Empower educators/leaders to engage their students in environmental explorations as co-researchers striving toward expert learning.
  5. Certify participants in the use of the Association of Fish and Wildlife’s Growing Up WILD curriculum.

Who Is This For?

This course is specifically designed for preservice and in-service teachers, para-professionals, recreation facilitators, and environmental education instructors who work with either Pre-K, TK, or K students in formal or informal settings.
