Spring 2025 - UC Climate Stewards Certification Course

Building a Diverse Community of Stewards and Advocates for Our Lands

Four Rivers Natural History Association, in partnership with UC Merced, is excited to offer the UC Climate Stewards certification. Participants in this course will learn how climate is changing both our natural and social systems, and what they can do to improve ecosystem and community resilience.

You will be introduced to social-emotional resilience and trauma-aware practices, learn the latest climate science and practice effective communication, while engaging with those involved in community resilience planning.  Introductory overviews of state and regional climate policies will be conveyed, in support of increased public participation among climate change initiatives.

Our course is framed around grassland ecosystems among California’s Central Valley public lands, with an emphasis on our California State Parks.  This 7-week hybrid course integrates synchronous and asynchronous online coursework, field experiences, and project-based learning designed to connect you to the partnership networks interlocked with climate change in this region.

After certification, UC Climate Stewards will be encouraged to volunteer in activities ranging from community and citizen science, land and water stewardship, civic engagement, and education and interpretation activities.
