We will be joined on our Pacheco State Park field day experience by interpretive staff, expert partner speakers, and natural resource agency professionals. Information on this very special, grasslands filled, historic park, and the career professionals of a wide range who engage with humans as part of the biodiversity touched throughout this water and energy nexus now and into the future. Addressing climate resilience specifically, we’ll gain knowledge on Pacheco State Park’s replaced wind turbine installation, and the progress of the 10 to 15 year San Luis Reservoir project associated with strengthening and increased dam height.
Updates on this field experience will be shared, including the possibility of an indoor location, should inclement weather pose a challenge for this final, mandatory course field day.
Level parking on dirt/gravel is available near the open air area where some events will take place, with additional relatively level dirt parking one half mile from the turn off entering the park. Portable, accessible restrooms with a handwashing station are adjacent to the parking/open air area. Events in this area will take place on uneven grass, among picnic tables (some with ramada coverings) largely positioned on consistently uneven grass/dirt/gravel. Many activities for this field experience are further into the park, and involve hiking on uneven, gently to steeply sloping paths/trails/roads of dirt/gravel/grass. There is no potable water. There are no restrooms beyond those adjacent to the parking area.
Pacheco State Park is located 24 miles west of Los Banos or 20 miles east of Gilroy off Highway 152 on Dinosaur Point Road.
